Water Treatment and Conditioning

Hard water and high iron concentrations are common water quality problems in Erath county and the surrounding areas. Hard water is caused by minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, that are dissolved in the water. These minerals become deposited as scale, and over time they can cause wear on your clothing, leave a film on your dishes, and cut down on the efficiency of your appliances. How do you know if you might have either of these problems? Here's a quick check list to help you find out:

  • Do you have stains in your sinks?
  • Do you need to use a lot of soap to clean your dishes?
  • Does your water taste odd or smell funny?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions you might have hard water or high levels of iron. As your water solution specialists, Dowell Water Well Service is here to assist you in fixing your water quality problems. We offer free testing and have a licensed specialist on staff to recommend products and solutions for your particular situation. How Water Softeners Work

Hard water is treated in a water softener using a technique called "ion exchange". This works by passing the hard water through a tank of tiny resin beads coated with sodium ions. As the water flows through the system, the calcium and magnesium ions in the water are exchanged for the sodium ions, yielding soft water.

The beads in your water softener must be periodically flushed, or regenerated, to keep the system functioning. This is typically done using a brine (salt and water) solution that is stored in a tank beside your system. We provide a salt filling service to help keep your brine tank stocked and your water soft.
